Students and teachers who stutter

This article highlights four well-rehearsed presentations at a Teachers and Students Who Stutter workshop at the CSA national conference in August 2007. The workshop took place in Toronto on August 17, 2007.

Sadia Khan, the first speaker, teaches elementary school near Toronto. As a child, she felt frustrated and alone when people told her to slow down, without understanding her experiences as a speaker. She dreaded using the phone, saying her name, or reading a passage verbatim in class. She often felt rushed to answer teachers’ questions.

Review of "the King's Speech"

I had the pleasure of attending the screening of "The King's Speech" last night at the Toronto Film Festival and enjoyed every minute of it.

The movie is about the unlikely friendship that forms between shy, stuttering King George VI (played by Colin Firth) and Lionel Logue (played by Geoffry Rush), his speech therapist. The latter helping the former find his voice. Even King George VI shared our familiar self-doubt: "How can I be king and lead my people with a stammer?"

My Experience at the NSA Conference

This July, Daniele, Carolina and I attended the NSA conference in Cleveland. We ended up taking a greyhound bus all the way and even though some parts sucked we saved some money and got to know each other a lot better. Carolina had been to NSA conferences in the past and Dan and I were the "First Timers". Not knowing what to expect i was extremely nervous and didn't really understand why, but once we arrived and everyone was meeting each other I felt alot better!

The October 1 session features CSA Member Carolina Ayala from Toronto, and a previous episode (#22) features CSA Member Heather Baier from Edmonton, Alberta. Beware of dubious claims made on website

Kill Stutter A dubious website!

This article is a warning to people who stutter, and an appeal to everybody to help stop a website that makes impossible claims regarding curing stuttering, and has attracted international attention. The owner of the website in question, Arjun Lal, is Canadian and lives in Unionville, Ontario.The website claims to sell a taperecording that will stop stuttering in under 10 minutes.
